During this session we will briefly explore the primary responsibilities of board of directors and how to help them execute those duties in service to the organization. We will also discuss the appropriate relationship between the board and staff with a special focus on hiring and supervising executive directors without overstepping. We will explore how to craft an effective meeting and end with tools and metrics can be used to assess the board’s strengths and growing edges.

About the trainer: 

As a former Board of Director at Chicago Women in Philanthropy, the Eleanor Foundation, Las Caras Lindas, and Ixchel and as the current Board Treasurer at Action Now Institute and recently elected Board Member of Calumet Park School District 132, Consuella brings practical knowledge and personal experience to her work with nonprofit boards. In addition to educating board members about their roles and responsibilities, particularly in the areas of fundraising and financial oversight, Consuella enjoys working with boards to help them refocus and think more strategically about their roles and annual goals. She has also worked with boards to help them reimagine creative ways to cultivate new board members of color.
