A critical ingredient of any strong and effective board is the actual composition of its members. In this session we will explore how organizational by-laws, clear position descriptions and focused recruitment strategies can enhance board recruitment and retention efforts. We will also look at ways to cultivate a pipeline of potential new members, help those who have lingered a little too long to move on, create a thoughtful onboarding process for new members, and develop a board skills inventory.

About the trainer: 

As a former Board of Director at Chicago Women in Philanthropy, the Eleanor Foundation, Las Caras Lindas, and Ixchel and as the current Board Treasurer at Action Now Institute and recently elected Board Member of Calumet Park School District 132, Consuella brings practical knowledge and personal experience to her work with nonprofit boards. In addition to educating board members about their roles and responsibilities, particularly in the areas of fundraising and financial oversight, Consuella enjoys working with boards to help them refocus and think more strategically about their roles and annual goals. She has also worked with boards to help them reimagine creative ways to cultivate new board members of color.
